Dianna is a BTW Junior that has been a part of Hornet Archery for three years.
Participation in archery has brought her new friends and brought her true self to the surface.
She explains, “I have learned that in the right environment, I am not as introverted as usual.”
Dianna is enrolled in the archery class during school and participates after-school as well.
She expresses, “I have gained something that helps me de-stress at the end of the school day.”
As a top archer in the program, Diane would tell someone interested in archery that, “it does
not matter how good or bad you are when you start. As long as you put in the work and try, there will be results.”
Summing up her archery experience, she said, “I am more enthusiastic to come to school. I am not stressed at the
end of the school day and I am genuinely happy.”
ADOLFO
12th Grade Archer
“Patience and determination to achieve a goal” is what Adolfo has gained from participation in archery.
He’s a senior and has developed his skills tremendously over the past two years. His goal is to have the perseverance
to keep trying even after messing up. Adolfo’s leadership skills do not go unnoticed by his teammates.
He is also always willing to work with others to help them improve. He has become an equipment expert and repair
specialist for the program. As a leader and top shooter, he says about archery, “it can be competitive, but the
environment is calming. It calms we down after a bad day.”
KARMA
10th Grade Archer
The 2024 school year is Karms’s first year to participate in Hornet Archery.
Confidence and self-acceptance were two things that Karma listed as gains from participation in archery.
She has learned that being a self-critic is okay as “long as you give yourself some slack.”
Her persistence and dedication have provided for tremendous gains in her skills and shot scoring in a very short time.
When reflecting on archery and its impact on school, Karma says, “It has helped me channel my anger and anxiety into something healthy.
I’ve been a lot happier and stress free since I started archery.”
Karma is an integral part of Hornet Archery and adds to the amazing community of Hornet Archers.
SAMANTHA
10th Grade Archer
Samantha is a second-year archer at BTW. Her friends and her dad played a pivotal role in her joining the after-school
archery program her first and second years. This year, she joined the 7th hour class and continues to stay for after school practices.
She describes archery as, “a sport really made for me.” She understands that improving is a result of trying your best and a lot of patience.
Archery has provided her a vehicle for the development of confidence and leadership skills. Last spring she gave a speech in front of
the whole student body and was elected as an officer for the student council.
